GLENN HUGHES: 'LIVE IN AUSTRALIA' (CD & DVD)
EDEL: CD 0186162ERE / DVD 0186168ERE
RELEASE DATE: MONDAY 10th DECEMBER 2007

glenn hughes

He’s been called ‘The Voice of Rock’. His career
has spanned more than four decades, having played with Deep Purple, Trapeze, and Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, in addition to producing an absorbing body of solo work.

We’re referring here to the great  Glenn Hughes, and the Edel label is proud to present Live In Austalia, a CD and DVD memento of his very first solo show in that country.

Recorded on June 17th 2006 at the famed Basement venue in Sydney, this brace of releases features Hughes very personalised Funk / Rock vision in full, vibrant effect, in acoustic mode, the ‘unplugged’ format allowing Hughes’ matchless vocals to soar, to rock and even to croon through a set of contrasting songs which brilliantly cherry-picks through his illustrious career.

So, I Found A Woman, from 1977’s Play Me Out sounds as fresh and invigorated as his passionate cover of The Moody Blues’ Nights In White Satin, taken from his recent Music For The Divine release. Of course, his days with Deep Purple are solidly represented by This Time Around, You Keep On Moving, and a show-stopping rendition of Mistreated. Gravel-voiced Aussie vocalist Jimmy Barnes joins Hughes on Getting’ Tighter, and his Antipodean hosts loudly voice their approval.

Investors in the DVD version of Live In Australia are treated to three bonus tracks, in the shape of Monkey Man, This House and The Divine.

Live In Australia
is an intense, yet furiously entertaining collection that reinforces the magnificence of Glenn Hughes as a vocalist, musician and performer.

JON LORD & THE HOOCHIE COOCHIE MEN: 'LIVE AT THE BASEMENT' (DVD & EXCLUSIVE CD)
EDEL: 0186228 ERE
RELEASE DATE: MONDAY 10th DECEMBER 2007

jon lord

Jon Lord, one of the mainstays of Brit Hard Rock institution Deep Purple is a musician who has never had time for musical boundaries.

A man who has had a hand in music as diverse as Machine Head and The Concerto For Group And Orchestra is not an individual who cares to have what he does easily boxed and compartmentalised; music simply flows from him.

It’s with great pleasure, therefore, that Indiscreet PR presents a DVD (with exclusive bonus CD), on the German Edel label, which shows Lord momentarily discarding his Purple raiment in favour of that ol’ mood indigo, revisiting his Blues roots in the company of such seasoned musical
journeymen as bassist Bob Daisley, (who has played with distinction with Black Sabbath, Gary Moore, Richie Blackmore’s Rainbow) and Steve
Vai;
harmonica genius, Jim Conway, guitarist Tim Gaze, and drummer
Bob Grosser, to produce a DVD collection that amply illustrates Lord’s command of the Blues idiom, and his obvious delight in working within this particular genre.

The selection of material ranges from the Deep Purple opus, When A Blind Man Cries, through to genre standards such as Dust My Broom, and contemporary classics such as the Jimmie Vaughan (Fabulous Thunderbirds / Stevie Ray’s brother) composition, Six Strings Down.

The DVD was recorded at The Basement, in Sydney, Australia, and also features a guest appearance from Aussie Rock vocal legend Jimmy Barnes. The DVD also includes a bonus CD in the shape of the first Hoochie Coochie Men studio album.

Live At The Basement is an authentically Blues-wailing and heartfelt collection that adds much lustre to the Lord legend, whilst simultaneously showing a bunch of talented musicians simply enjoying themselves in front of an appreciative and suitably vocal audience. It’s not wildly innovative or ground-breaking; it’s honest, good-time music, pure and simple, and something that should be warmly greeted by fans of Deep Purple, the Blues and the free-thinking everywhere.
