JANIS IAN:
THE BEST OF JANIS IAN: OCTOBER - NOVEMBER 2011
One of the great singer-songwriters to emerge
in the turbulent 1960's, Janis Ian sets off on her
first UK tour for six years in the Autumn of this year,
in which she will be promoting a career-spanning
double CD compilation, The Best Of Janis Ian.
The Janis Ian in-concert experience, is, as her legion of fans will aver, an amazing
two-hour event that sees her navigate a path through the forty-odd years of her
absorbing career.
From the 1960's Civil Rights heyday of the debut hit, Society's Child, through to her
70's and 80's commercial high water mark of the At Seventeen era, and on to more
recent triumphs such as her Billie's Bones and Folk Is The New Black albums.
Janis Ian is a wonderful singer, and a staggeringly accomplished guitarist, and, if she
ever decided to pack this singing lark in, could also make a living as a stand-up comic
or raconteur, peppering her sets with witty stories and laugh-out-loud interludes.
She's also renowned for her willingness to meet and greet her fans after shows.
It is not only music; Janis' autobiography, Society's Child, published in 2008, garnered
massive press plaudits for its unremitting honesty and candour, some frequently
difficult and personally trying experiences recalled without a shred of self-pity or
mawkishness.
